France has successfully ended the bird flu outbreak by culling 10 million birds, as announced by the country’s farm ministry. To prevent future outbreaks, France is set to launch a nationwide vaccination campaign against bird flu, becoming the first country to do so.
he duration of the campaign, whether it will span throughout the year or be limited to the autumn and winter, will depend on the allocated budget.
Three companies, namely Ceva Animal Health from France, Boehringer Ingelheim from Germany, and Zoetis Animal Health from the United States, have received clearance from the French Agency for Veterinary Medicinal Products for their vaccines.
Positive test results have been obtained for vaccines from Ceva and Boehringer Ingelheim, while details regarding Zoetis’ tests are yet to be disclosed.
