Chicken crisis: 10 million chicks culled in six weeks due to load shedding

There are concerns that chicken shortages caused by load shedding at fast-food chains could spill over into the broader retail and wholesale markets.
The industry has had to cull more than 10 million day-old chicks in the past six weeks due to disruptions to the slaughtering process.
This is getting worse, and the South African Poultry Association is also worried about further price increases for cash-strapped consumers.
