The Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) case study analyses the effects of the EPA on the Poultry Sector shedding light on a range of measures and issues affecting trade in poultry products. These include trade defence instruments (bilateral safeguards and anti-dumping duties), sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) issues, politics, or industrial policy considerations. The case study also addresses social issues, notably effects on food prices and the dual market structure in some SADC countries, with a small number of large, vertically integrated firms and a multitude of smallholder farmers and analyses to what extent the EPA may have led to changing production patterns for smallholder farmers.
