2| MARKET ACCESS
Lifting of trade restrictions:
Recently we received a notice on the lifting of trade restrictions on poultry and poultry products imported from Denmark on the 1st of August 2024, poultry meat with a production date of 18 March 2024 and onwards will be accepted. Read more here.
Countries currently open for trade:
Spain, Ireland, Argentina, Denmark, Netherlands, Open US States,
Brazil (excluding the province of Rio Grande do Sul)
Recent Impositions of Trade Restrictions:
Trade restriction on poultry meat from Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil) as a result of Newcastle disease. [02 August 2024]. Consignments containing products packed in their final packaging on or after the 18th of June 2024, from Rio Grande do Sul will be rejected and returned to the USA or destroyed at the cost of the importer.
Trade restrictions on poultry meat from the USA State of Massachusetts. [08 August 2024]. Consignments containing products packed in their final packaging on or after February 16, 2024, in Massachusetts, will be rejected and returned to the USA or destroyed at the cost of the importer.
Trade restriction on poultry products from Poland. [29 August 2024]. Consignments containing products packed in their final packaging* on or after 07 August 2024, will be rejected and returned to Poland or destroyed at the cost of the importer.
Countries currently banned for poultry imports:
Israel, Germany, Hungary, France, Zimbabwe, Belgium, Sweden, Canada, Chile, Poland, Australia, Closed US States (see next column)
Below is a table of all banned US States:
DALRRD has evaluated the close-out reports for Belgium, France, U.K, and Chile and they are in the process of communicating their decisions to these countries soon. They have not yet finalised the evaluations of USA States Maryland, and Pennsylvania.
AMIE will keep members updated on market access matters.
03 | EU SUNSET REVIEW
The case is currently under appeal. The appellants have submitted the record for the case. The appellants include ITAC, the Minister of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and SAPA, all of whom have already filed their Heads of Argument. AMIE’s legal team is in the process of preparing their Heads of Argument, which are due by August 30, 2024.
We will keep our members informed as the case progresses.
04 | SARS POULTRY INDUSTRY FORUM
With our recent Poultry Industry Forum meeting held on the 13th of August 2024. We can report that AMIE’s relationship with SARS is going very well. AMIE and the SARS National Targeting Unit (NTU) are focused on ensuring fair trade within the industry. We are pleased to report that since March 2023 to date 18 cases have been finalised and an additional 12 audit cases were conducted over the period.
AMIE together with SARS remain committed to ensuring and advocating for fair trade within the industry.
